My 10 mile challenge !

I’ve never been much of a runner. It’s not that I don’t like running, I just get bored very easily. Nevertheless, I dared myself to run the annual Antwerp 10 miles!

I first started running on a treadmill, but after I’ve reached the distance of 4 km, I got bored and went outside. Best decision ever !  Running in fresh air with different surroundings really helps to clear my mind. Even now it’s getting colder, I still look forward to my weekly runs. So hope I’ll be able to keep up the good work and finish my 10miles in April!

6 tips that will help you to keep going:

1.  Just do it !

Tomorrow you will wish you had started today. Start slow! It doesn’t  matter how slow or how fast you run, you’re still lapping everyone on the couch. Having trouble leaving your own couch? Put on your exercise clothes and then decide whether you are going to work out or not.

     2.   Get equipped
Expand your closet ! Running gear can be fashionable, but it should always be functional. Comfort is king. It’s important run with decent shoes, as knee pain, back pain and soar feet are typical injuries you’d want to avoid.Reward yourself with some nice running gadgets like a the polar RC3 gps. Tracking your progress is a great way to keep you motivated.

     3.   Change direction
Switch up your route regularly. That way you won’t get bored that fast and if you’re running for fitness, it’s important you don’t get to comfortable. Keep challenging yourself by trying different routes and roads. Need some help? Try the app : MapMyRun.

     4.   Listen
Listen to your surroundings to keep things safe while running. Listen to music, because it motivates like nothing else, it relaxes your mind and makes your runs more fun. BUT! It’s important that these (power)songs don’t push you to do things your body can’t handle. A great alternative therefore is listening to audio books, which will help you to keep your pace at a certain level. And off course, you must listen to your heartbeat, because it will tell you whether you’ve been training too hard.

5.   Run with friends

Bored of hearing the same songs all over again? Ask a friend to go on an running date and motivate each other to go farther than ever before! Don’t feel like talking when running? Use the Nike+ Running App. It allows you add friends and uses internet connection to synchronize your rungs.

     6.   Set goals, train for a race !
No explanation needed, look up some race, train and subscribe. Good luck!

Living near Antwerp? Then take a look at the following races

Hope these tips help you to keep going and remember,
It never gets easier, you just get better.

What’s your challenge?

Love, KPW.
